Along a dragon’s back: unwind and get reacquainted with nature

Ameyama Culture and Sports Park makes use its mountainside location. Possessing a gymnasium, tennis courts, municipal swimming pool, camp ground, and other facilities, it is a place where local people completely enjoy leisure. Within the grounds, there is also Garyu-no-Mori Forest, a great place for strolling and forest bathing. The word garyu refers to a reclining dragon, and the name well describes the form of the land. On 57 hectares, more than 10,000 trees and flowering shrubs have been planted in nine zones that include Wild-bird Forest, Daybreak Forest, Unwind Plaza, Sunny Forest, and Contemplation Forest.

Hiking trails with views over Lake Biwa

Garyu Park has around 4 kilometers of hiking trails, which are suitable for families and novice climbers. This parkland is listed among Japan’s Top 100 Woodlands for Forest Bathing. While enjoying the invigorating effects of phytoncides and negative ions, you can also absorb the beauty of the season. At the summit, your effort is rewarded with a view of the southern end of Lake Biwa. In spring, when the 1,000 flowering cherries are in full bloom, many people come to enjoy the famous sight. If you see any wild boars, exercise caution and keep your distance.
